White Water Rafting Padas River (Grade III - IV)

The Padas river is Sabah's premium rafting destination for those looking for an exciting, adrenalin filled day out! Located in the interior southwest of Sabah and only accessible by train this trip will offer you not only an un-forgettable day of rafting but also the chance to enjoy beautiful views of Sabah's interior region.

No previous experience of rafting is required but bring your sense of adventure for this exciting trip down Sabah's only grade 3 to 4 rapids!

Itinerary

Rise and shine for an adventure-filled day! Your journey kicks off bright and early at 5:30am, when you’ll be picked up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu and transferred to Beaufort Train Station. The exact pick up time may vary according to your hotel location and our team will email you 1 day before your trip to reconfirm this. We recommend wearing your swimwear under your clothes or coming “rafting ready”: Boardshorts & rash vest or quick dry shorts & T-shirt work well, just avoid white as the river can stain white clothes brown! Bring a change of clothes for after the rafting trip as you will get wet.

Arrive at Beaufort train station by 7.30am and hop aboard a scenic 2-hour train ride through Borneo’s lush countryside. The train will make a quick stop at Rayoh Station along the way, Rayoh is the ending point for the rafting and your bag / change of clothes can be stored safely here whilst you raft.

By 9:30am, you’ll arrive at Pangi Station—time to grab your rafting helmet, paddle & life-jacket and get briefed for your big adventure! Around 10:00am, the real fun begins as you set off on a exhilarating white-water rafting session down the beautiful Padas River, paddling your way through foamy grade III-IV rapids and jungle scenery for between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the flow of the river.

After you’ve conquered the rapids, freshen up and enjoy a well-deserved lunch at Rayoh, before rejoining the train at 1:30pm for a relaxing ride to Beaufort train station. On arrival at Beaufort, your driver will be waiting to take you back to Kota Kinabalu. Expect to arrive back at your hotel between 5:00pm and 5:30pm

Additional info

There is no road access to Pangi, the starting point for Padas rafting and it is not uncommon for the train to be cancelled due to landslides or mechanical issues. In the event this happens, you may only be notified in the very early hours of the morning. An alternative rafting date, or a refund, will be offered if your rafting trip is unable to proceed as planned.

The journey to and from the Padas river is a scenic trip into Borneo's countryside and an adventure in itself. Based on average water flow, rafting will last around 1hr and 20 minutes, you do however need to be prepared for 4 hours of travel each way for anywhere between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours of rafting depending on the speed of the river.  Since the river is dam controlled, we are unable to predict the water flow on any given day.
