White Water Rafting Padas River (Grade III - IV)

The Padas river is Sabah's premium rafting destination for those looking for an exciting, adrenalin filled day out! Located in the interior southwest of Sabah and only accessible by train this trip will offer you not only an un-forgettable day of rafting but also the chance to enjoy beautiful views of Sabah's interior region.

No previous experience of rafting is required but bring your sense of adventure for this exciting trip down Sabah's only grade 3 to 4 rapids!

Itinerary

Prepare yourself for an early morning pick up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu, between 3.40am - 4.20am, (depending on where you are staying), followed by a 2.5 hour drive to Tenom Railway Station.

At 7.30am, board a Pangi bound train for a 45 minute scenic journey through Sabah's interior region. Reach Pangi by 8.30am and get yourself ready for rafting. The rafting crew will provide a thorough safety briefing and an equipment demonstration before you embark in the rafts for your adventure down the Padas river!

Once you begin rafting, it can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours (depending on the water flow) to navigate your way down the 10km stretch of water from Pangi to the ending point, hitting the 8 big names on the way down!

Arrive at the ending point with time to freshen up before enjoying lunch by the river. During and after lunch there will always be the discussion of who's raft was the best, fastest and wettest!

After lunch, ride back to Pangi on a motorised trolley before hopping back aboard the train to Tenom.  Rejoin your coach or van for a 2.5 - 3 hour drive back to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu with an estimated arrival time between 5 - 6pm.

Additional info

There is no road access to Pangi, the starting point for Padas rafting and it is not uncommon for the train to be cancelled due to landslides or mechanical issues. In the event this happens, you may only be notified in the very early hours of the morning. An alternative rafting date, or a refund, will be offered if your rafting trip is unable to proceed as planned.

The journey to and from the Padas river is a scenic trip into Borneo's countryside and an adventure in itself. Based on average water flow, rafting will last around 1hr and 20 minutes, you do however need to be prepared for 4 hours of travel each way for anywhere between 45 minutes to 2 hours of rafting depending on the speed of the river.  Since the river is dam controlled, we are unable to predict the water flow on any given day.
