Danum Valley

At 130 million years old, Danum Valley Conservation Area is one of the oldest rainforests in the world. This 472sq km primarily lowland dipterocarp forest is home to hundreds of species of birds, mammals & insects and is an absolute nature lovers paradise. The Borneo pygmy elephant, sun bear, orang utan and clouded leopard are just a few of Danum Valley's inhabitants.

Spend your days trekking through this ancient rainforest in search of wildlife or relax surrounded by nature. Lucky visitors may encounter a mother Orang-utan with her baby, Wallace's flying frog, Borneon Gibbons, Rhinoceros Hornbill and much more!

There are only 2 accommodations in Danum Valley Conservation Area, the simple but clean Danum Valley Field Centre or the luxurious Borneo Rainforest Lodge and you will find more details about each option below.

Getting to Danum Valley

Danum Valley Conservation Area is 2 - 2.5 hours drive down a gravel road from the town of Lahad Datu and both accommodation options below include return transfers from Lahad Datu on a scheduled basis.  To reach Lahad Datu town you can take a MAS Wings flight to Lahad Datu airport (LDU) from Kota Kinabalu (BKI), travel by public transport from Sandakan (approx 4-5 hours) or Semporna (2.5-3 hours) or request an overland transfer together with your booking.
