This fantastic week long itinerary takes you from the lofty summit of Mount Kinabalu to the enchanting turtle island and on to Sepilok orang-utan and sun bear sanctuaries before finishing up with 3 wildlife filled days on the banks of the Kinabatangan river. Over the 7 days, lucky visitors will see a stunning sunrise from the top of Mt Kinabalu, baby turtles taking their first steps towards the ocean, orang-utans, sun bears, pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys, hornbills, the swiftlets that call Gomantong caves their home and much much more!

Rather than provide a fixed price "fully inclusive" itinerary we have allowed for the fact that some travellers are happy with budget accommodation whilst others may be after a little more luxury and encourage all visitors to contact us to discuss the different options available in each location.

Mount Kinabalu
Day 1 Pick up from your hotel or airport in Kota Kinabalu and proceed to Kinabalu Park traversing the Crocker Range with panoramic views of the surrounding hills, the focal point of which is Mt Kinabalu. Upon arrival at Kinabalu Park, we will register you for the climb the following day and arrange your Sabah parks mountain guide for the climb. Spend the day hiking the various trails of the beautiful Kinabalu park. (Meals: L/D) Day 2 After breakfast collect your packed lunch and meet your mountain guide at the park headquarters. Thereafter you will be transferred to Timpohon Gate (1,829m), from here you will begin your climb to Laban Rata (3,353m) Dinner at Laban Rata Resthouse and check into your accommodation. (B/L/D) Day 3 0230 Hrs – An early rise to collect your supper and continue your climb to the summit of Mt Kinabalu (4,095.20m)! Arrive at Low’s peak in time for a spectacular sunrise. Return for a well-deserved breakfast at Laban Rata Resthouse. Continue your descent to Timpohon Gate and transfer to Park registration office where you can get a certificate to say you have successfully conquered Mt Kinabalu. Have lunch at Balsam cafe before continuing back to Kota Kinabalu. Estimated arrival time 4-6pm (depending on speed of descent). Spend the night in Kota Kinabalu and enjoy a well deserved rest (hotel and dinner at own expense) (B/L) Turtle Island Day 4 Pick up from hotel in Kota Kinabalu and transfer to the airport for first flight to Sandakan (flight by own arrangement), meet your guide at Sandakan airport and transfer to the jetty for 45 minutes boat ride to Selingan Turtle Islands Park. Upon arrival register at the Parks HQ and check into chalet. After lunch, free and easy for the afternoon- swimming, snorkelling and exploring the island. Dinner served in the resort and then it's a waiting game for rangers call to observe turtles laying eggs. Learn about the transferring of eggs to the hatchery and opportunity to observe the release of baby turtles to the open ocean then overnight in Chalet accommodation. (L, D) Sepilok/Kinabatangan river Day 5 7am departure from Turtle island and then transfer to Sepilok in time for the 9.30am feeding session in the Sepilok oran-utan sanctuary to see both the adult orang-utans at the main feeding platform and also the playful & naughty younger orang-utans in the nursery. Your next stop will be the Borneo Sun Bear conservation centre around 11am where you can spot sun bears from the raised walkways. You will have about 45mins to an hour with the sun bears before going for lunch at a local restaurant and continuing on to the Kinabatangan river. The transfer to the Kinabatangan will depart around 12.30pm and should take around 2 hours to reach Bilit jetty, from here it is just a short boat ride to reach the Nature Lodge Kinabatangan which is located at the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary. Welcome drinks will be served upon arrival. After check-in and an orientation to the lodge we will head off for our first river cruise in search of wildlife and bird-life along the river banks. An optional guided night walk is available after dinner and will give you a chance to experience the jungle wildlife after dark! (Meals- B/L/D) Day 6 As day dawns, join our early morning River Cruise in search of more wildlife and birds. After breakfast, you’ll begin your 2 to 3 hour jungle trek to the Ox-Bow Lake with our professional jungle guide. Various species of wildlife may be seen along the way such as Proboscis Monkeys found only in Borneo, Leaf Monkeys, Macaques, Gibbons and exquisite insects and birds. Lucky visitors may also catch a glimpse of wild Orang Utans and the newly discovered “Borneo Pygmy Elephants” (relatively, it’s the smallest elephant in the world). Return to the lodge for lunch and a chance to relax and explore your surroundings. As the afternoon draws to a close, we’ll head back out for another boat cruise along the Kinabatangan River with more wildlife spotting opportunities Return to the lodge for dinner and decide whether to join our optional night walk into the jungle. (B/L/D) Day 7 Wake-up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills and join our 6am morning River Cruise for your final chance to spot pygmy elephants, orang utans, proboscis monkeys, hornbills and all types of other birds & monkeys. Return to the lodge for breakfast, check-out and head over to nearby Gomantong caves for a briefing about the significance of these caves to the local community. Spend around one hour viewing the cave and animals that call it home. Depart for Semporna, the journey will take approximately 4 hours, approximate time of arrival 2pm (B) |

What to bring: Binoculars, Insect repellent, long sleeve shirts & long pants, raincoat, sun hat, swim wear, comfortable trekking shoes, torch light, water bottle, personal toiletries and leech socks. Please note that the flight to Sandakan is not included but can be booked with Air Asia or Malaysia Airlines. |
