Terms & Conditions

Mount Kinabalu summit climbs

Our Mount Kinabalu terms & conditions have been prepared in accordance with the terms we receive from our third-party accommodation suppliers at Mount Kinabalu and may be periodically updated.

By making payment for a Mount Kinabalu climbing package with River Junkie Tours, you are deemed to have agreed to the following terms & conditions:

1. Refunds: Bookings for Mount Kinabalu climbing packages are not refundable under any circumstances. This includes, but is not limited to, cancellation of your climb due to illness, pre-existing medical conditions, injury, altitude sickness, weather or flight issues.

2. Postponement: If you are unable to attend your climb due to illness, injury or a last-minute flight cancellation please contact us for assistance. Rescheduling is at the discretion of the accommodation provider but is generally granted if clear proof of your medical condition or flight cancellation is provided.

3. Sabah Parks fees: The governing body of Kinabalu National Park reserves the right to implement National Park fee increases at their discretion but not more than once annually. In the event the National Park fees change for your climbing date, you will be required to top-up your package payment by the corresponding amount.

4. Pre-existing medical conditions: Climbers with any pre-existing medical conditions are strongly recommended to seek medical advice prior to attempting the climb. If you have booked a climb with Via Ferrata and have a pre-existing medical condition, you are required to provide a medical clearance letter at the time of booking and obtain approval to join the Via Ferrata.

5. Insurance: Your climb includes limited insurance issued by Sabah Parks and any claims are to be made directly to Sabah Parks. Any costs above and beyond the coverage limit are to be borne solely by the climber and we recommend having your own additional insurance for your trip.

6. Late arrival surcharges: Climbers arriving at Timpohon Gate after 4pm will be subject to a guide overtime fee of RM15 per guide per hour. Overtime fees may be revised periodically.

7. Transportation: Your package includes transfers on a join-in, scheduled basis unless otherwise arranged and our operations team will inform you of your pick up time 1 day in advance. Climbers arriving back at Park HQ early on their descent day may be required to wait for other climbers to arrive before transferring back to Kota Kinabalu. The first van will leave between 3 - 4pm and the last van will leave by 7pm. Climbers wishing to depart immediately after their climb or arriving back at Park HQ after 7pm will be required to pay an unscheduled transfer fee of RM300 per van.

8. Summit attempts: For each of our Mt Kinabalu packages, you will be making your summit attempt first thing in the morning when the weather is normally at its best. We obviously cannot control the weather or guarantee sunshine on the day you have booked and from time to time the Sabah parks rangers will close the summit trail and Via Ferrata activity if they deem it too dangerous to make the
summit attempt. In the event that the weather is not at it’s best and the trail and Via Ferrata are closed, we will not be able to offer any refund or provide a replacement climb as the money you have paid has gone towards your climbing permits, accommodation, meals, guide, insurance and transfers, all of which are non-refundable.

9. Cut off time & attire for Via Ferrata climbers: Via Ferrata climbers must reach Pendant hut by 3pm at the latest on their ascent day to participate in the Via Ferrata briefing, climbers arriving after the cut-off time will not be permitted to take part in the Via Ferrata activity the following day. Gloves and closed toe, lace-up shoes such as running shoes, hiking boots, hiking shoes shoes and gloves are mandatory to take part in the Via Ferrata
