This trip combines 2 nights at the beautiful Borneo Nature Lodge on the banks of the Kinabatangan river and 2 nights at Tabin Wildlife Reserve, Malaysia's largest nature reserve. Visit Sepilok sanctuaries and the Gomantong caves, join river cruises in search of the Kinabatangan's abundant wildlife, trek to Tabin's famous mud volcano, visit Lipad waterfall, join your guide for dawn, dusk and night walks as well as 4X4 safaris and take your time to relax surrounded by nature.

DAY 1
Meet & greet by guide at hotel or airport around 8-8.30am and proceed to Sepilok orang utan sanctuary to visit both the nursery and main feeding platform. Depart from Sepilok and drive for about 2.5hrs drive through rustic countryside studded with villages. Take a short boat transfer to Borneo Nature Lodge. Time for orientation, have lunch and check in. Relax by the river before embarking by boat up-river at 1600hrs along Sabah's longest river, Kinabatangan with opportunity to view wildlife and birds in its virgin rainforest habitat. Search for some of the primates species including the endemic Proboscis Monkeys as they settle down on treetops. Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best places in Southeast Asia to observe wildlife. Overnight at Borneo Nature Lodge. (L, D) DAY 2 Wake up to the calls of birds, insects and animals. At 6.00am take a morning cruise up to The Kinabatangan River and onto Kelenanap Ox-Bow Lake for bird watching and in search of other wildlife. Take a short jungle walk (if weather permits) and experience the wilderness of Borneo before returning to the lodge for breakfast. Free at leisure to explore the surrounding areas or nearby village. In the evening, boat cruise along the river to see many species of flora and fauna of the rainforest and overnight stay at Borneo Nature Lodge. (B, L D) * Optional tours e.g. Night Cruise, Night Walk & Tree Planting can be arranged at the lodge with minimal rates depends on the weather condition All optional night activities are currently not permitted during RMCO period. DAY 3 After breakfast, check out from Borneo Nature Lodge and stop off at the Gomantong caves, home to a multitude of bats & swiftlets for an optional self-guided visit of the caves** before continuining on to Lahad Datu, estimated arrival time at Tabin office in Lahad Datu: 11.30am. Upon arrival check into your Tabin Wildlife Resort Chalet and take a walk to explore the local Lipad River area, home to a surprising variety of birds, insects and small mammals. Discover the rich variety of jungle herbs, some endemic, used for generations by local folks for the treatment of various ailments. In the afternoon, trek with your guide from the Elephant trail to the active Lipad mud volcano which provides a mineral salt lick for wildlife, arrive at the elevated bare area of the mud volcano which is frequented by wildlife and birds. Try to identify the multitude of animal footprints here. The adventurous can try the effects of the volcanic mud, said to be responsible for a fine complexion. Trek from the mud volcano back to the main road. After dinner join the 4X4 night safari drive looking for nocturnal animals (L,D) DAY 4 Start with an optional early morning bird walk to discover some of Tabin’s rich collection of almost 300 bird species. After breakfast, trek through the lush green rainforest known for its rich diversity of plants and animal species to visit Lipad Waterfall. Take a dip in the natural pool and enjoy a natural and refreshing shower under the waterfall. Alternatively explore the surrounding vegetation or simply relax. Enjoy some free time at the lodge in the afternoon then, as the sun sets, go on a dusk drive to look for nocturnal wildlife coming before returning to the lodge for dinner and an after dinner night walk on the nature trail nearby the resort (B,L,D) Day 5 After breakfast, free and easy until check out. You may opt to take up a dawn drive or jungle walk to look out for wildlife that is active at this time of the day. (Optional activity not included in package: Dawn Drive and Jungle Walk). Transfer out is at 1.30pm after lunch. You will be back in Lahad Datu by 3pm - 3.30pm for your onward journey. (B, L) |
